Write an article for a European newspaper reporting on
the April 1861 attack on Fort Sumter. Your newspaper
article must be at least three paragraphs and must
include
• a headline that will attract readers.
• an introduction that outlines who was involved,
what happened, where it happened, when it happened,
and why it was important.
• a description of at least two events that led up to the
attack. Explain how these events showed a spirit of
compromise or of conflict between the North and
the South at the time of the event.
• a conclusion that discusses whether you think a civil
war was inevitable.

Tariff of 1828

This was 22 years before the time period we are studying but it should be considered when analyzing conflicts between the North and the South before the Civil War.

Why was this tariff a source of conflict between the North and the South?

Vocabulary Concept Map for Unit 2 Test

Step One- List all vocabulary from Chapters 4 through 7

Step Two - Categorize all the vocabulary words into 4 or 5 separate conceptual categories. (Not by Chapter or timeline)

Watch October 3rd @ 6 P.M. (Or on Youtube)
What do the presidential candidates have to say about America’s founding ideals of equality, rights, liberty, opportunity, and democracy?
Take notes using this worksheet on what Barak Obama and Mitt Romney say that relates to the founding ideals (They may not use the words but they will talk about ideas related to them)

Afterward write a reflection (on the back of the worksheet) highlighting what you think are the most important statements made by the candidates concerning these 5 ideals.
